@Bryce -- do you have a pointer to the upstream X discussions which
hinted at drm-next? That would be most helpful.

It looks like upstream believes this is fixed now. In any case, from
the upstream discussion it looks like they believe it to be a kernel bug
needing a change in drm-next so I'm refiling this against the kernel.
Probably the fix is already present in the karmic kernel, which they can
doublecheck.

Sorry for not following up sooner, took a bit before I was rebooted
without KMS, which I needed to do in order to show this is not
(entirely) a gnome-settings-daemon issue. Here's the output of xrandr
*without* KMS:
$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 2048 x 2048

Upstream says this is a gnome-settings-daemon bug.

Steve, I've forwarded the bug upstream to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22779 and subscribed you to
the bug. Please follow up on the upstream bug, as I have a suspicion
they're going to want to have a bit more info.
I am still not 100% sure this is actually an X bug, or something i

Steve can you confirm this issue still exists with the most recent
-intel driver? In our previous snapshot KMS was not allowing EDID to be
exported to gnome-settings-daemon, however I cherrypicked a patch in
2:2.7.99.1+git20090602.ec2fde7c-0ubuntu5 on july 1st which purportedly
fixes it. That pat
