Same here on Vostro V13 - it seems not to recognize the touchpad.
dmesg:

/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input11
/proc/bus/input/devices also do not show the Synaptic device
Only tpconfig sees the touchpad:
Found Synaptics Touchpad.
Firmware: 8.
Same as Hajime on my Dell Vostro V13

Yes, I tried the solution that jicapone posted.
but /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe doesn't exist.
/proc/bus/input/devices is as follows.
Does not kernel correspond to device?

As for Dell Vostro V13, the synaptics driver doesn't load.
The edge scroll cannot be used though the tap click is effective.
In gnome-mouse-properties, there is no TapButtons tab.
$ sudo tpconfig -i
Found Synaptics Touchpad.

Hello,
I was having the issue described above. I just removed the option from
/etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.modprobe and the synaptics driver is now being
used. See http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14
/slackware-current-synaptics-touchpad-problem-732856/
Hope this helps.
