I think I am right in thinking you are confirming that this isn't a bug.

oh god ! would you believe it. although i dont want to take all the
blame as its not obvious
if i tick the show off line buddies then i get off line buddies, groups etc
it was blank as no buddy was on line. it could maybe do with a first time
tell message box for someone such as me that
yeah of course
there is only one account, my msn account, it signs in with a non-hotmail type
account ie. i registered my email address as my passport and thats what i use
at work, on laptop etc and on aMSN but would prefer pidgin.
i enable the account and it logs in if log in on laptop it tells

Would you mind telling us the content of the 'Accounts' menu. A
screenshot should be good, but its not necessary, just telling us whats
there and what is in the 'Enable Accounts' and what is in the msn sub-
menu would be perfectly sufficient.

A screenshot would be fantastic if thats OK?
Could you take one of your empty buddy list, but have Acounts> MSN open
so we can see it in the picture.
