Tap-to-click has been disabled upstream by default since some time during Jaunty, but we've carried patches inside the driver itself to change the defaults. The changes were clobbered a few days ago when Debian renamed the source package from xfree86-driver-synaptics to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
