I have a Compaq presario v5120 and it does the same thing, haven't
tried it without noacpi yet. I can confirm though that it does this in
both Edgy and Feisty but not Dapper.

Update... this seems to fix it. Add pci=noacpi noapic to the end of your
kernel options not sure if this will apply to everyone but it works for
me.

Touchpad frequently stops working. This is my log:
