I can confirm the bug. When trying to use the chess part, gcompris
immediately dies and disappears with no message to the command line.
I'm using amd64 karmic 2.6.31-17-generic SMP.

I get these freezes as well. Besides that, the computer opponent
sometimes just stops playing but you can shut down the program normally.
To reproduce a freeze, just play the game where you have to checkmate
the computer opponent with a king and two bishops. I never made it to
the end because of t
