Hi lance,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.
If it remains an issue
I did something similar, though I don't have a Dell...
I updated the BIOS and drivers through Windows (when I finally got the
NIC working). It seems to have soled the problem for me.

I also downloaded an updated Broadcom driver from Dell and it has fixed
my problem.
I don't have any more network problems in Windows after using Ubuntu.
