this issue has happened to me twice so far updating firefox. ubuntu
jaunty and in xubuntu as well.
just by doing the regular updates that are presented to me when updates become
available.
also i have stumbleupon installed into my toolbars and i get signed out of them
as well.

As i recall ubufox controls the settings. Thisd happened with one update
it was either to 3.0.9 or to 3.0.10 but i dont remember. Please let us
know if it happens with next update. Make sure you give us all the
updates in that batch. when you run apt-get update[upgrade] or what not

I'm afraid that I can't reproduce this easily at all. It was a bug that
occured when upgrading from the previous release. There are no
approprite diagnostics on the suggested wiki page.
