I think a lot of thought should be put into how to use icons in the
idicator-applet menu before making a decisions. The best public place I know
to have a discussion about a feature request is ubuntubrainstorm. I can
think of a few different ways to use icons.

If you're closing a 5-month-old enhancement request as Won't Fix, it
would be nice to provide some reasoning. Personally, I agree that
applications are more easily identified by their icon than text alone.

source with icons. Menu entries are already indented for this purpose.
