I am having the same problem. In addition to the paste option not
working, the "replace" option under "find & replace" is grayed out.

When I move to OpenOffice spreadsheet, highlight the cell and right
click to paste - there is no "paste" function in the right click menu.
(I have discovered that I can cntl-V and insert the value.)

I am using the same version of Ubuntu, same kernel version and same
version of OO.
And I couldn't re-create this problem.
I tried copy/pasting a few words from this page directly into the cells
at least 10 times, then I did the same in the input box at the top.
So
This works for me, but sometimes the pasting operation can take several
seconds to complete.
