Nothing changed in Lucid. Seems like modem-manager tries to send an AT-command which isn't supported by the Motorola A1200: 'ATI' - with which it tries to request identification information. I sent the 'AT+CLAC'-command to the phone to get a list of all available AT commands. I attach this list -
