Hi,
That patch is against the Squeak-3.9-8 UNIX VM sources. If you are keen,
try and build the VM from scratch. It is quite easy assuming you
already know how to build stuff.
Here is the link to the VM sources:

Ok I want to install squeak, it will not do to lack of squeak-vm.

So what is the fix/work-a-round?
Would someone please add instructions to this bug?

Well, I have managed to compile a 64bit VM and successfully run an
image. The generic UNIX source just needs a small patch applied.
btw, those sources at `http://www.squeakvm.org/squeak64' are over 2
years old. It seems as though 64bit is now supported in the generic UNIX
source package.

I should clarify. Is there a reason not to make the _32-bit binary
package_ available to amd64 users, especially since it's dependencies
are already in the amd64 pool? It could be squeak-vm-ia32 or something.
I'd be happy to package it up myself, but I'm not the maintainer :)

there are no dependencies on the binary itself?"
You can do this yes. Thank you.

I should point out that a 64-bit Squeak is a big issue (according to my
smalltalking co-workers) far outside of the scope of Ubuntu. However,
the upstream 32-bit Squeak binary has no 32-bit dependencies other than
ia32-libs (confirmed on several debian-based systems). Is there a

Can we change this from being wishlist to something more critical? The
source files for amd64 obviously exist, is there no one capable of
building a package?
