That machine is retired now. My new work machine is an HP EliteBook
8730w. I just tried to reproduce the bug on this machine and it doesn't
do that ugly render thing anymore.

It's a Lenovo R60 with a ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400.
I use the default driver that comes with X in 9.04 for this card.
