4 people with ATI cards have the same problem, with the mouse stuck on
the secondary screen. It seems the same bug to me...

I have just struggled with a similar issue for the last several days:
Ubuntu 9.04 (AMD64) with NVidia drivers
I have a primary monitor in 1024x768 and a projector in 1920x1080 and prefer to
run with separate x-screens. This worked fine in Ubunty 8.04, but with Ubuntu
9.04 the 2nd screen did not w
Here is a fix until the bug is fixed, I have been using it on another
computer for a different compiz related issue. I found it during a
search a long time ago and had worked well.

I have added your PPA and the upgraded the following packages via synaptic from
version 180.44 to 185.18.14:
nvidia-180-kernel-source
nvidia-180-libvdpau
nvidia-180-modaliases
nvidia-glx-180
I then re-booted, altered my nvidia-settings to "separate X screen" and
logged out and in again.
The bug
I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

I can confirm this bug for nvidia-graphics-driver-173.
I was using separate X screen on my nvidia Geforce FX 5950 with my CRT
(1280x1024) and TV (1024x768) since ubuntu 8.04. I set this up with
nvidia-settings.
Since I updated to Jaunty I encounter exactly the same problems as Fred does.

When choosing the "Separate X Screen" option to use my projector in
Jaunty, the second X screen seems to exist, but the display is totally
black.
Also the mouse pointer when moving from screen 0 to 1 freezes at the
edge of screen 0 and then a second one appears

Actually I was using version 177 of the nvidia driver in Intrepid (which
doesn't get offered for Jaunty) so maybe it is the driver.
The clone option seems to have re-appeared in version 180 though which
is what I wanted to use originally, the separate X screen was a work-
around for not having "cl
