Seems to work for me with a 10.04 live cd. Perhaps some underlying
livecd infrastructure was to blame/was fixed.

[Jaunty] Amarok in live session does not offer to download codecs
https://bugs.launchpad.net/b
I am not even sure this should be fixed in update-notifier-kde... IMHO whatever
thingy is responsible for the live session setup should just activate
multiverse and universe, making u-n-k temper with the sources.list is just too
dangerous.
Opinions?

Ok, so we've said that it's a problem in the release notes. Should we
invest the effort to make automatic codec installation work in the live
session or just leave it be?

When started from the live session, Amarok will not offer to download
additional media codecs when needed, so, for example, it will be unable
to play MP3 files. This will work

I think update-notifier-kde would be a better place to put this than
amarok in any case. (It does all the heavy lifting, amarok just accesses
it with a dbus interface basically)
** Package changed: amarok (Ubuntu) => update-notifier-kde (Ubuntu)

I am after some research unconvinced this is an amarok problem. Not sure
where to place it exactly. The code to show that notification is in
/usr/bin/update-notifier-kde, but the installation would need the
sources from multiverse, which is not active for the live-system.
