Bear in mind that the patch I attached to my previous message was
generated from speedcrunch git master with "git diff", so it might not
apply to Ubuntu's speedcrunch source. It's only two lines, though, so
it shouldn't be too difficult to apply by hand. If I wasn't so busy
right now, I would do

Enabling the StatusBar (Ctrl+Alt+B) helps on Kubuntu Karmic KDE 4.3 too,

Thanks Hs for this trick. I confirm that enabling the StatusBar (Ctrl+Alt+B)
removes the symptom.
I'm under Ubuntu Karmic with Gnome/Compiz.

I can confirm this bug. It is present both with and without compiz. It
is indeed very annoying.

I confirm this bug with speedcrunch in Ubuntu 9.04, with gnome and
compiz.
If I launch speedcrunch from the application menu, or via gnome-do, or
in the terminal, the speedcrunch window appear in the background (under
every other opened window), without focus.
