I have had the same problem with my brandnew Thinkpad T410 with Nvidia
Quadro NVS 3100M. To get the Fn brigthness keys working, I had to add an
option to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file into the device section of the
nvidia card:
Section "Device"
...
Driver "nvidia"
Option "RegistryDwords" "En
I forgot: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1

I have exactly the same problems.
When I try to use brightness keys seems that ubuntu "understands" what I'm
doing, because on the top-right of the screen appears the brightness bar (like
the volume one, when I change the volume) but it is "blocked".
I have to add that it's possible to increase/
