That's odd since Firefox doesn't manage the sound. Maybe the flash
plugin was broken? fyi - Current Karmic 9.10 alpha 3 + current patches
is still on firefox 3.0.12, but I'm using Firefox 3.5 via PPA. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I did manage to overcome this
problem by using Firefox 3.5. So I guess it was a Firefox problem that
will be resolved in Karmic (which will include Firefox 3.5).
