Okay, I have no clue what Ubuntu has different in packaging Python
modules. If somebody can point me to documentation of the difference
when compared to Debian, it should be easy to fix.

Jaunty x86_64, Wammu from PPA don't start with the same error. Will it
be fixed soon or I should install Wammu and Gammu from official repos?

Adding a clue :D
If I install wammu from mainstream it works since it brings down some
older version of gammu and wammu. If the same is done from PPA wammu
release is the last, but gammu is not.
In Michal's PPA repository the gammu-1.24.0-1.jaunty~ppa.1 has not been
built correctly: I see the "X"

I still have the same problem after downloading from PPA. Just installed
definitive Jaunty and downloaded wammu from PPA.
