I have a similar problem.
Enter VPN configuration in network manager
Add VPN pptp connection.
Able to enter details
Return to EDIT connection in VPN tab of Network Manager
Result: pptp VPN Connection tab no longer exists. Only Ipv4 setting show. (see

I think jandom means network-manager-pptp. But there is Bug 362825
network-manager-pptp conflicts with network-manager, which makes this
workaround fail for Hardy (Dell Mini). I learnt this the hard way by
installing network-manager-pptp and then everything with the network
failed. I had to hand-d
For all i can tell vpn 'add/apply' is usable in network-manager-pptd and vpn
connections work.
but add/apply is still inactive for OpneVPN's

I wonder why this stopped working with Hardy; I recall Feisty had no
problems with this. Do we know why the ‘Add’ option is greyed-out at
all?

Is the fix for Jaunty going to be backported to Hardy? I am using the
Dell Mini repository and would love for this to be fixed for the Hardy
LTS.

I think the ‘Add’ button is greyed out in default installation of
Intrepid. I am not sure if network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-
pptp are installed in the default installation, but they should be. See
also https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/vpn-by-default
