Ah, I have finally managed to reproduce this! Thanks @~suv for the
extra hints. I have attached an SVG containing the shape which I used.

This only happens when bounding box snapping is off and node snapping is on
(snapping toolbar):

I couldn't reproduce this bug in karmic with Inkscape
0.47~pre4-0ubuntu1, so it's possible that it has already been fixed.
Would you mind trying it with the latest version of Inkscape too?

Karmic for testing. Because *so* much stuff has changed compared with
