I'm closing this bug, because it has been more than six months since I
last requested information, and none has been forthcoming.
Furthermore, the description given in the original report indicates a
confusion between the primary on-board sound device and the webcam. This
reason alone is sufficien
It appears to me that the original issue reports a failure of PulseAudio
to route sound to the correct hardware. There is a USB webcam detected
(see comment #6). The original reporter does not want his sound routed
to that device, understandably.

** Description changed:
PROBLEM: PulseAudio is unable to determine basic information about my
sound system, despite the fact that the information is readily
available.
System is a Dell Inspiron 530N
Processor - Intel Core2, 1.60GHz
Memory - 1 Gig
Video Card - NVidia GeForce 7300L
Re-reading your description, I'm not sure I understand your actual bug
report. Is your complaint that the output from PulseAudio's logging does
not clearly denote which card is which, or is your complaint that
multichannel sound does not work by default?

Daniel, Attached is the file you requested.
Oh, and BTW, considering the extreme lack of knowledge/experience I have
with shell commands, I had no idea that it was NOT a bash command.

Bugs,
Daniel, Thank you for your suggestion. There is only one sound card in
this computer. as for the bash script, I downloaded it and ran it as
suggested, and the end result of what I got was:
cr...@tyche-jaunty:~/Documents$ sh alsa-info.sh
alsa-info.sh: 298: [[: not found
ALSA Information Script
It would be useful to know what other card is being detected in your
system. Please run http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh explicitly
as a bash script, and attach the output here.
