installed with --single-version-externally-managed or not. I didn't
It looks like there's a 1.3 version of python-virtualenv upstream in the
debian repositories now, though it didn't break setuptools out from it
at this point.

OK, this sounds like an issue with the packaging of virtualenv -- it
needs to be updated (I'm assuming there's an Ubuntu package of
virtualenv that is involved here?). Also, if the packager of virtualenv
might want to break setuptools out of virtualenv.

I'm the one who told Joe Tennies that this was a known issue in
setuptools that has since been fixed. However, now that I look at the
bug report I see that he was using setuptools 0.6c9 from Ubuntu, and
when he easy_installed setuptools he got 0.6c9 from PyPI. The upstream
bug that I was thinking
