I'm the one who told Joe Tennies that this was a known issue in setuptools that has since been fixed. However, now that I look at the bug report I see that he was using setuptools 0.6c9 from Ubuntu, and when he easy_installed setuptools he got 0.6c9 from PyPI. The upstream bug that I was thinking
