I hit the same bug. Usually if there is a problem I can simply take the
sessionstore.bak file and overwrite sessionstore.js to recover but that
is not working.

I haven't been able to find this bug on the debian bug tracker, but I
don't know anything about the differences between the update process for
firefox in debian and ubuntu. if manually downloadi
As I already wrote in the duplicate, I've proved that is
ubuntu-specific (or maybe debian-specific too?). In fact:
a) the upate process for the original firefox is different
b) installing (in ubuntu) the original firefox, then updating with
open tabs, and then closing and finally reopening it doe
