This is because the actual xorg server version is 1.6.0 and into the
script installation of the addition the only xorg version supported is
1.6
So to resolve this tiny problem all you have to do is to edit the
install.sh file, go to the line 415 and change 1.6 by 1.6.0 than execute
: sudo ./instal
I don't think that this is a vbox bug because the additions are working
just fine under 8.10.

Hmm, I'm wondering if this is a vbox bug rather than xorg specifically,

Hi kleinb1,
Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've
made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

However, after going into low-graphics mode, it asks if I want to try
starting the X server again, and when I say yes, it works, but the
additions (eg, support for actually filling the screen and mouse
integration) still don't work.
