Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this
issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release -
http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . Please let us know
your results.
If the issue remains while still running Jaunty, please run the

I seem to have the same problem now on 2.6.28.11, on boot the boot menu
appears allowing me to chose kernel alternatives, then when I chose
2.6.28.11 there is no further drive activity, finally the boot drops
into the busybox shell.
If I select to boot kernel 2.6.27.11 all works fine.

I'm having the same problem with the 2.6.28.11 kernel. I finally got the rt
kernel to boot for me yesterday, but after a while it locked up hard on me.
After I cycled power, the generic kernel would no longer boot. I've tried
setting rootdelay=120, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I
edit the file /boot/grub/menu.lst (sudo vi /etc/grub/menu.lst) and add
the changes there to make it permanent. Most often the issue is faulty
HDD.

actually required me to use:
vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-server instead. not sure if that makes a difference,
or if it is the kernel itself.
Uses the delay, the kernel and OS did load without an error I could see.

forgot to ask. Do I need to make this change everytime? Or do I need
to change it in my code? Or is this a fix that will be pushed out via
Automatic Update?

When you see the grub booting, hit "e" that will put you in grub's edit
mode, there you will edit your boot command line
/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=3eea46ad-1172-4cb9-b13c-
0939cd8e5112 ro quiet splash
to something like...
/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=3eea46ad-1172-4cb9-b13c-

Not to sound like a n00b, but where/how would I make that change?
