This is the output I got when trying to set openjdk as default via the
terminal. Hope this is useful.
I noticed that appletviewer it mentions as not existing appears to
simply be renamed to pluginappletviewer.

Confirmed.
Plugin eats 100% of CPU when it's started in FF.
FF can't be closed properly either...window closes, but FF process eats
100% CPU after closing the window.
The very same plugin used in konqueror (kde4.x in jaunty) works as
expected and doesn't eat the whole CPU..

The plugin works in opera.
Seems to be firefox related.
