I installed Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 4 and the SATA DVD drive was detected
without any problems!
I am happy that I can move away from Hardy 8.04. Back on the bleeding-
edge distro!

Hi
I have the same problem but with a other dvd player, can you give us the result
of a lshw command. So It's look to be somthing other than the dvd player
