I think the error message should say what adding Java does or doesn't do
for this package so the user can make an informed decision. Or get rid
of the error message...

To be clear it used to say this instead:

uno can use java which is why you see the message about openoffice.org-
java-common. In the past it said the same thing except it didn't tell
you which package to install to get rid of the warning message. It is
harmless, but if you do want full support of openoffice.org you can
install that packag
