This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

This could be related to your SiS chipset or your BIOS. Try booting the
kernel with the "acpi=off" and/or "noapic" options. You can edit your
/boot/grub/menu.lst file to try different options: create a new entry
that isn't the default with the same kernel image but has your new
options. That way
