Sorry, I didn't see that the driver was from Bryce's PPA! It does not
show the commit ID, neither does the current Karmic one. The drivers in
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/drivers-only will print out
the commit ID.

In that case, the output of "grep commit /var/log/Xorg.0.log" in both
cases (with the driver on the LiveCD and the driver from the PPA)
produces blank output. I guess the driver doesn't get loaded?

The fix is released when it is available in the development version.
Some bugs can be "nominated" for older Ubuntu releases.
The module version will be 6.12.99 in both cases. Run "grep commit
/var/log/Xorg.0.log" instead.

Is a fix really released? After all, it sort-of works in Karmic, but
it's still broken in Jaunty.
Switching to console and back does not fix the corruption.

In Karmic Alpha 5 the computer resumes from standby correctly.
This happens both with the driver from the CD and with the driver from
the PPA (although I'm not really able to determine that the driver from
PPA gets loaded correctly, as it reports the same version?).

This still happens on Jaunty Alpha 6.
Tried reporting this using the crash reporting tool (which now works,
yay), but it gave me the error "This is not a genuine Ubuntu package"
(the package being linux-image-2.6.28-9-ge - cut off in window's title
bar).
So, is there someplace else I should repor
