Have the same problem after update from Intrepid to Jaunty RC. I've the
plugin installed in both the home and usr/lib directories.

Confirmed. I get the error message "ImportError: Import by filename is
not supported." Gedit 2.25.8-0ubuntu1 and gedit-latex-plugin 0.2rc1-1
