After enabling the SSID broadcast it works.

these kind of issues are usually driver bugs. please check latest kernel
packages from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
If the problem persists, attach outpuf of lspci -vv lsusb and your
complete syslog after reproducing.

I have jaunty beta installed on a IBM T40 (Intel iw2100 wireless)
Kernel: 2.6.28-11-generic
all updates installed.
I can not connect to WPA hidden wireless network. After unhiding the
network, connection works.
