I just did a fresh installation of karmic, upgraded all my packages, and
I have gdm 2.28.1, yet this tool-tip still appears. Was there some kind
of regression?

yes, because the text entry field is in the middle of the screen the
mouse-over is almost always shown (and it is quite useless). We need to
make sure it does not get shown and I do not think there is a way to
disable it in the theme (as there is no mention of it in the theme
code).

Should this be controlled with a flag in the theme, or disabled in
general?
