I'm having the same problem on Acer aspire one with ath5k.
NetworkManager can't manage wireless networks. If i set up wicd (another
wirless manager) its working without any problem.

Thanks for your response.
The reason I asked is because it wasn't clear from your initial report
if you could connect to a wireless network at all. I wanted to be sure
the problem was with the network applet and not because Network Manager
was providing poor information to the applet.

According to the DebuggingNetworkManager page:
If a network-manager bug report is about not being able to connect the title or
summary should be in the format:
"[CHIPSET] cannot connect to (ENCRYPT_METHOD)"
where the CHIPSET is the wireless driver used and ENCRYPT_METHOD is the
encryption method
