I've tested the livecd and the sound didn't work. There are too many
bugs with Intrepid and my machine to consider it being viable on my
machine.
Herewith is the attached script. Hope it helps you get to the problem.

If you can, please download and run http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh
with the --no-upload option:
./alsa-info.sh --no-upload
Then attach the resulting alsa-info.txt file to this bug report.
