I'm sorry to revive this thread.
i removed mysql-server-5.1 and amarok stopped working, the collection was empty
and when i scanned for it i got
[ERROR!] Tried to perform query on uninitialized MySQL
so it seems in my server amarok was still depending on it
i installed it again and it works again
How did I have amarok 2 but no mysql server packages then? ;)

It did depend on mysql-server-5.1 until an hour ago, though. Once the
new version builds it won't depend on mysql-server-5.1
