I'm experiencing the same issue on Jaunty (it works in Intrepid).
gome-system-monitor correctly displays the network usage , the system
monitor applet not!
I've noticed that the flavor of net monitor in the applet has changed to
yellow since Jaunty, but I don't think the issue is related to the
c
it's not trivial to compare graphs since they don't have the same
timescale but the bug is not obvious to me no

I m using a 2 second to refreshing my graph.
I can open a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org.
Mouse over a graph does nothing.

Here is a small screenshot where you can compare a gnome-system-monitor
and gnome-applets.
gnome-system-monitor show a graph correctly.
gnome-applets decrement and after up to max and decrement...

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10; gnome-applets 2.24.1
I don't test if in the gnome-system-monitor is the same. I will test it a next
time...
In Ubuntu 7.10 gnome-applets was show the graph correctly. (I home, not
sure).

monitor ? could you test the same as well with ntop? Which version of
Ubuntu and gnome-applets are you running ? thanks in advance.
