I'm on Feisty and having a similar problem importing images from my
Kodak EasyShare 310. I was getting an error which read "PTP Protocol
error, data expected" whenever I tried to import. So, I imported via XP
instead. This s no longer an option as I am Ubuntu-only.

The problem is with 45-libgphoto2.rules. The first few lines read:-

Is the fix supposed to handle *every* PTP camera? I got the same problem
with my Canon EOS 400D, which isn't known yet in gphoto2.
The line
SYSFS{idVendor}=="04a9", SYSFS{idProduct}=="3110", MODE="0660",
GROUP="plugdev"
in /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libgphoto2.rules made it work.
