I can reproduce it here with a couple of week old install of jaunty.
However after a restart, it works fine for me. Will dig deeper. Have you
tried restarting after fetching latest updates?

jaunty: alsamixer can't find libasound_module_conf_pulse.

Binary package hint: alsa-utils
Don't know where the problem really is, but this is a fresh install of
jaunty and sound doesn't work. Killing pulseaudio doesn't help,
alsamixer still fails to find libasound_module_conf_pulse.so and aborts.
It is installed on the system though
