It might be worth splitting this into a separate report for the webcam? One thing that might be worth checking for the stuff that only works on some ports might be to try a powered USB hub, I can imagine that might be a problem for some hard drives that are USB powered (if they are) - but it sho

Looking at other bug reports, this appears to be a Linux bug. See bug # 109211. I've experienced this bug as well. I've connected three different DVD reader/writers, two Sonys and a Targa to an IBM ThinkPad X60s and a Sony Viao via USB. None of these worked - they behaved as described above. H
