This addition to /etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-pptp-service.conf
solved the problem for me with GSM.
Have now to check behaviour of gnome-screensaver which I have to
manually kill

This prevents my GSM modem from working.
ppd connects (got ip and DNS) and after a while NetworkManager kill
everything saying
NetworkManager: pppd_timed_out(): Looks like pppd didn't
initialize our dbus module
In auth.log I do find this:
