Now that I look at the message log a little closer I realize that I have
actually had two boots into the newest kernel since the errors above,
which did not exhibit the errors shown above either.

I have re-booted into the next kernel back from the one above, and when
in this kernel, the .wmv files play just fine.
The problem only just started about one and a half days ago when I last
ran updates after being notified there were some to download. Whatever
was in that update bro
