Thanks for your prompt response. I agree it's probably the engine. I
just want the open source solution to be just as good if not better
than the commercial version, so thanks for the pointers on who to talk
too. Will take it to poppler.

I confirm that it does take a lot longer to open the same document in
evince, but even so it downloaded (all 25 MB) and opened fully rendered
in less than a minute. Opening it after saving it took about 40 seconds
to fully render. Acrobat took approximately 10 seconds, I don't believe
