I just ran into this problem today using Open Office 2.4.1 and Ubuntu
Intrepid. It turns out that I set the "Optimize for speed" option on the
Acroread print settings I get garbage/garbled characters. But if I turn
this option off my PDF prints just fine. Hope that helps.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are not using a software
package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. OpenOffice 2.4 is
the latest supported version, and Acrobat Reader is not supported by
Ubuntu at all. Bec
