z3non: it seems your problem is caused by the atl1 module for your
gigabit network card. Can you test unloading that module?
Also is possible for you to test with Karmic Alpha 3 or even better with
latest mainline kernel?

Different systems work different of course and unfortunately. For what
it is worth, I've tested 2.6.27-11 (from Intrepid proposed) with 177.82
on my T61p (6457-7WU) and it works fine. But that's not going to help
you at all. One caveat that I have is that another defect blocks the
use of Fn-F4 t
