Hi , I'v upgraded the ubuntu 9.10 and I'm no longer facing this issue.
[hadnt been facing this problem for a very long time either , i filed
this bug when using interpid and forgot about this bug]
As HAL is being deprecated I'm closing this bug , anyone else facing
this problem can reopen the bug
@vish, not sure if it will help you toward resolving this bug, but typing
$ echo /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend
will not tell you whether the file exists or its contents
Try
$ cat /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend

Here are futher observations:
Using a USB device interferes with suspend/hibernation. When something is
plugged in my USB ports, suspend/hibernation seems to always fail (everytime I
tried it so far with USB device plugged in). The I have to 'sudo
update-initramfs -u' again, reboot once, and th
i'm using the older kernel, had some problems with 27-9
so i did twice
sudo update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.27-7-generic
sudo update-initramfs -u
but still have the same problem...

Anyway the above may not be needed.
I got hibernation working again this way:
I rebuilt initrd.img twice
i have the two files in the path :
>/usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate
#!/bin/sh
. hal-functions
hal_check_priv org.freedesktop.hal.power-management.hibernate
hal_exec_backend
>/usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend
#!/bin/sh
. hal-functions
hal_
I have the same problem, on a desktop.
Hibernation/suspend stopped working (probably after kernel update to
2.6.27-9-generic).
Hal-functions not found because the current directory, ., is not in your path.
However, when I added it, I got these errors instead:
org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.UnknownErr
guys anybody has a solution for this?
i dont want to keep shutting down and restarting the system every time i
use it !
