I'm not sure what exactly fixed this for me, but I've noticed that it hasn't
happened lately.
Could you try the newer drivers from here?

It seems a little better, and may be responsible for fixing the icons.

The same happens with me. Expo and switcher. I'm using an up-to-date
Ubuntu Intrepid. Here's some more info:
