unfortunately i can't confirm this bug anymore, cause i dumped my old hardware
and now own a shiny new system with 4GB ram ;)
the old system that this bug occured on/in was indeed a little weak:
1GB RAM , AthlonXP 2600+, i386 kernel.

Hey Ulrich. What kind of machine are you using? What cpu, how much
memory (RAM) ? This behavior has been observed on system with low RAM, I
wonder if your machine fits into the pattern
