Booting off the Intrepid release Live CD, X came up just fine. Xorg
logfile shows my video card did not have known PCI ID so the vesa driver
was used instead of nv.
That's what I wanted so I think this bug can be called fixed.

I do not believe this affects the GT series. My friend has GT version
of my card (same manufacturer) and has no problems. My card however
does not work unless I force X to vesa mode (or install the nvidia
drivers). Same problem in Debian too.

I have a 6600gt, but what exact steps do I need to take to replicate
this bug? I've never seen this behavior before.

Sounds like we need a quirk for this 6600 card. Can someone with this
card post the output of 'lspci' so we can see what PCI ID to quirk?

This problem is still persistent in the Hardy Alpha 2 and safe mode
(which has worked since sometime after Dapper) also now fails to work.

Timo,
The HWCursor option solved the problem for me.
Sorry about the incorrect application of the Milestone. I saw the ATI
one of the same milestone and figured if it wouldn't hurt to have a
matching nVidia one.
Is there anything in particular that needs to be done to get future Live

Similar problem here on Gutsy with a 6600GT. The vesa works fine but the
nv driver gives a corrupt screen. I have to boot into rescue mode and
edit xorg.conf to use vesa instead.

First thing to try would be to set 'Option "HWCursor" "false"' in the
Device-section. Upstream has similar reports where that helped.

Screen is still distorted for me on Fiesty Herd. I have a eVGA 6600 LS
(AGP). Though when trying OpenSuSE's Live DVD (v10.2) I did get the
desktop with no mouse cursor that the previous poster got (though no
system freeze).

Edgy Beta1: The screen is no longer distorted as in Dapper with nv
driver, but i cannot see the mouse cursor.. After a few minutes, the
whole system froze hard. After switching to the nvidia driver,
everything works just great.
